Food Intolerance Testing And Allergy Testing
Do you often suffer from the following?
- Feeling drained of energy;
- Bloating; constipation; diarrhoea; heartburn;
- Itchy eyes; abdominal pain; coughing; runny nose;
- Joint pains; headaches; depression.
These are just a few of the symptoms that you may experience if you suffer from undiagnosed allergy or food intolerance. Allergies and food intolerance are now the most common complaint in the U.K. affecting an estimated 23 million people and 4 out of 10 school children. Up to 40% of the population is sensitive to the three most common allergens: dust mites, pollen and pets. Millions more are intolerant to certain foods, most commonly wheat and dairy.
There is roughly one allergy consultant for every 2 million sufferers and only six full-time allergy clinics in Britain according to a recent report by the Royal College of Physicians and the average waiting time can be up to 12 weeks.
So what is the difference between allergy and food intolerance?
Symptoms Of An Allergic Reaction
Are normally immediate: Allergens can cause your immune system to react and over stimulate the production of antibodies known as 1ge. In severe cases people can have a condition called anaphylactic shock - this is just an extreme and life threatening version of an allergic reaction.
Symptoms Of Food Intolerance
Are not normally immediate: Your body may have trouble digesting food, and because of this food particles seep into the bloodstream where they are treated by your immune system as invaders. Researchers believe high levels of another antibody IgG is linked to food intolerance.
What Allergy Tests Are Available?
We use only reputable and reliable laboratories well know in the field of environmental illness dedicated to food sensitivity testing. The two laboratories that we regularly use are York laboratories and Individual wellbeing laboratory.
York Laboratories
Food Scan £19.99
This test will indicate whether or not you have a raised level of IgG antibodies in your blood. A raised level will indicate that your symptoms could have their roots in food intolerance, you can then decide whether to progress to a more comprehensive test.
| Allergy Check (previously known as MAST test) | £120.00 |
| 76 Food Test | £195.00 |
| 113 Food Test In Depth Test | £260.00 |
All the above tests can be performed by a finger prick blood test, with results in 10 working days.
Allergy Check
Classical allergies affect 30% of the population we can now provide a multi allergy screening test for those who suffer from classical allergy reactions.
Individual Wellbeing Laboratory
Osteoporosis Risk Assessment £60.00
This urine test measures the marker in the blood that are responsible for the breakdown of bone. It helps to identify those women who are at risk.
Candida Albicans £65.00
This test looks for two types of antibody specific to Candida Albicans. A positive result demonstrates that the individual has had an immune reaction to Candida and measures IgG plus IgA antibodies. This test is performed with a saliva test.
